Visit Jowzjān

Jowzjan is a province in the northern region of Afghanistan. It is bordered by the provinces of Balkh, Sar-e Pol and Faryab to the east; Sari Pul to the south; and Badghis and Herat to the west. The region is known for its abundant resources such as natural gas, petroleum, coal, copper and gold reserves. Dashti Margo National Park is one of Jowzjan's leading tourist attractions - it features lush green landscapes with majestic mountains providing stunning backdrops for sightseeing. Those looking for something more spiritual can visit Mazar-i Sharif, one of Afghanistan's holiest cities located in Jowzjan province. It contains many mosques, shrines and monuments that draw thousands of visitors each year from far beyond Afghanistan's borders. An interesting historical fact about Jowzjan province is that it has been home to different rulers throughout history - from Alexander the Great to Genghis Khan who annexed it into his empire in 1220 AD prior to defeating local Afghan tribesmen at their capital city Kishmandaq (or modern day Sheberghan).
