Visit Kāpīsā

Kapisa is a province of Afghanistan in the eastern part of the country. It is known for its stunning mountain views, vast plains, and charming villages. The region was once home to a variety of ethnic groups with their own distinct cultural identities, and archaeological evidence exists for some ancient settlements here. Today, it is primarily inhabited by Pashtuns who make up the majority population in the province.

Two popular tourist attractions are Band-e-Amir National Park and Bamyan City. The Band-e Amir Lakes are a series of six deep blue lakes formed by natural dams made out of travertine deposits surrounded by towering cliffs and beautiful valleys that can be seen from miles away. Bamyan City is an ancient city located along one of the Silk Road trade routes and was also once home to two giant statues carved into cliffs sides depicting Buddha figures which were destroyed during Taliban rule in 2001.

An interesting historical fact about Kapisa is that during Alexander the Great's invasion of ancient Afghanistan many cities were built under his rule including Kapisa (modern day Kapisa) which served as an important center for trade with India between 330 BCE and 327 BCE when Alexander withdrew from Afghanistan after establishing his empire across much Eastern Asia Minor and Europe.
