Visit Laghmān

Laghman province is a mountainous area of northeast Afghanistan, located along the Kunar River between Kabul and Peshawar. The region is home to many ethnic groups, including Tajiks, Pashtuns and Hazaras. Tourists can visit the historic town of Mehtarlam at the center of Laghman province, as well as Alishang district which remains an important trading hub for local peoples.

The remains of ancient Buddhist stupas (monuments) can be found throughout the countryside, revealing a historical cultural influence from further east that goes back centuries before Islamization in present day Afghanistan. The National Museum at Jalalabad holds remarkable archaeological finds from excavations throughout Laghman province.

For sightseeing buffs, Chashma-e-Koh in Alishang district offers stunning views over valley and hills surrounding it while Bamiyan - one of Afghanistan's most impressive archaeological sites - is just few hours away drive from Laghman's provincial capital Mehtarlam city.
