Paktika is a province of Afghanistan located in the south-east of the country, bordering Pakistan. The provincial capital is Gardez. Paktika has historically been an important political and cultural center of the region due to its strategic location at a crossroads between Asia and Europe, as well as its rich archaeological sites.

The province is home to some breathtaking scenery with snow capped mountains, icy streams and lush valleys with lush meadows. There are also several historical and archaeological sites that are worth visiting such as Bost Kahir Caves, which date back to the 5th century BC; Kharoti Fort near Shutul overlooking Tawos River; and Band e Amir National Park, known for its limestone canyons filled with crystal blue water pools.

One interesting historical fact about Paktika province is that it was once part of Ghazni Kingdom which was founded by Sabuktigin in 977 AD. This powerful dynasty stretched from Central Asia into India in its height during 10th century AD until it was conquered by Sultan Mahmud Ghaznavi & destroyed by Genghis Khan nearly 300 years later.
