The Castle of Kruje, also known as Kruje Castle, is a significant historical site located in the city of Kruje, Albania. The castle is perched atop a rocky hill, offering panoramic views of the city and the Adriatic Sea. It is renowned for its strategic importance in the 15th century, serving as the stronghold of the national hero, Skanderbeg, during the resistance against the Ottoman Empire.
Visitors to the Castle of Kruje can explore the Skanderbeg Museum, housed within the castle walls, which showcases a rich collection of artifacts from the era. The old bazaar, located just outside the castle, is another must-see attraction. Here, one can find a variety of traditional Albanian crafts and souvenirs. The castle’s well-preserved architecture, coupled with the historical and cultural richness of the site, makes it a must-visit destination in Albania.

Make sure to visit the 15th century bazaar known as Carshia which is located just outside of the castle’s walls. It is a great place to buy souvenirs, sample local delicacies, and get an insight into Albanian culture and traditions.
Don’t forget to explore the nearby Ottoman hammam (bathhouse). This bathhouse dates back to 16th century and offers a unique experience like no other in Albania.
Keep your eyes open for the three-arched bridge that connects two sides of Kruje’s city center near by Castle of Kruje - it provides spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys!
Try out some traditional Albanian dishes while you’re there - some must-try favorites are byrek (meat pie), kofta (meatballs), tave kosi (baked lamb casserole) or fasule me mish pule (beans with chicken).
