Visit Béjaïa Province

The Bejaia Province is located on the Mediterranean coast of Algeria, just east of Algiers. It is a popular vacation destination due to its stunning mediterranean landscape and beaches. In recent decades it has become a major tourist destination due to its rich cultural heritage and archaeological sites like Tipaza, the Roman ruins found near Cherchell.

The city of Bejaia itself is known for its vibrant markets, colorful buildings, and picturesque harbor. The Kasbah d'Ahmed Bey offers great views over the Mediterranean Sea from atop its 17th century walls. Cap Carbon boasts some spectacular cliff-side scenery as well as nearby caves with ancient paintings from Neolithic times. Nearby Ghironda Forest Park provides plenty of opportunities for walking and hiking in a natural setting.

Another interesting fact about Bejaia Province is that during the Punic Wars it was an important port city under Carthaginian control until it was taken by Rome in 146 BC, making it one of the oldest cities in Algeria with a long history going back thousands of years.
