Visit Illizi Province

Illizi Province is located in the southeastern part of Algeria, known for its breathtaking desert landscapes. It covers a huge area of over 285,000 square kilometers and is home to both the Tassili N'Ajjer and Ahaggar National Parks. These parks are UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are famous for their prehistoric rock art and unique biodiversity, with a variety of flora and fauna that have adapted to the harsh desert environment. The province's capital, also named Illizi, is a gateway to these natural wonders. An interesting historical fact about Illizi Province is that it contains the ancient city of Timgad, founded by Emperor Trajan in the 1st century AD. Timgad, known as "the Pompeii of Africa", is well-preserved and offers a fascinating insight into the Roman era in North Africa. Illizi Province truly is a treasure trove of natural and historical wonders.
