Oran Province, located in the northwest corner of Algeria, is a region rich in history and culture. It borders Morocco and the Mediterranean Sea, making for a unique blend of Middle Eastern and African influences. Popular tourist attractions include the ancient ruins at Tipaza and the Spanish-style fortifications built by 16th century invaders at Mers elKebir.
The area is also home to many national parks that feature lush vegetation and beautiful beaches along its coastline. More recently during World War II French forces held control over Oran before being driven out by an Anglo-American force in 1942.
