Visit Moxico Province


Moxico Province is the largest and easternmost province of Angola. Located in the south-central region of the country, it stretches from the Zambian border to the Luando River. The province is home to a variety of wildlife including antelopes, elephants and buffaloes, making it a great destination for safaris and game viewing.

The provincial capital is Luena with other main cities being Mucari and Camanongue. There are several tourist attractions that make Moxico an attractive destination such as Mount Moco (the highest point in Angola) and Cangandala National Park which offers breathtaking landscapes and diverse flora & fauna.

In addition to its natural beauty, Moxico Province also has a rich history dating back to the 16th century when it was first settled by refugees from Congo escaping from slave traders. During the Angolan War of Independence (1961-1975), this area was heavily fought over by guerrilla forces loyal to Portugal and Angola's liberation movement MPLA . Today visitors can explore historical sites throughout the region, providing insight into this tumultuous period in Angola's past.
