Visit Zaire Province


Zaire Province is located in the northwest of Angola. It lies on the border of Congo and covers a total area of 78,221 square kilometers. The province has a population of around 2 million people, with Luanda being its main city.

The region is blessed with beautiful landscapes and diverse wildlife, making it an ideal destination for nature-lovers and adventure-seekers alike. Some popular tourist spots in Zaire include Cunene National Park, home to some fascinating wildlife such as hyenas and elephants; Kalandula Falls - a breathtakingly powerful sight; and Quicama National Park - dotted with beautiful lagoons, wetlands and savannahs.

Historically speaking, Zaire was a former kingdom founded by Ngola Kiluanji Kia Nzabi during the 16th century who extended his power across the country by means of war campaigns until its decline during the 19th century due to political unrest. Today it remains an important region in Angolan history as it was where many battles were fought that shaped Angola's independence from Portuguese rule in 1975.
