Visit Río Negro

The Rio Negro is a major river located in Argentina. It runs through the Patagonian region of the country, creating an idyllic landscape of mountains, plains and forests. Along its path it passes through several important cities including Bariloche, San Carlos de Bariloche and Neuquen.

The river is fed by a number of smaller tributaries which help create its distinctive waterfalls and rapids. One of the most popular tourist attractions is Nahuel Huapi National Park, located on the northern bank of the river. Here visitors can enjoy picturesque views from boat cruises or hikes around the shoreline.

For those looking for more adventure there's also white water rafting opportunities along some sections of the river or fly fishing in nearby lakes such as Lake Mascardi or Lake Guillelmo.

The area was first settled by indigenous Mapuche people who gave it its name - 'Rio Negro' meaning black river due to its dark colour from heavy silt deposits brought down from upstream areas. Today, visitors can learn more about this ancient culture at various museums dotted along the riverside towns like El Bolson and Villa La Angostura.
