Visit Ararat Province
The region is known for its many historical sites, including the Khor Virap Monastery which overlooks Mt Ararat, the symbol of Armenian identity. The monastery was founded in 642 AD and offers spectacular views of Mt Ararat and nearby villages. Another popular tourist site is Harichavank Monastery, located near the town of Artashat. This 12th century monastery is a stunningly preserved example of medieval Armenian architecture with beautiful frescoes on its walls and ceilings.
Armenia's capital city Yerevan lies in Ararat Province as well, providing visitors with ample opportunities to explore its monasteries and churches as well as other attractions such as markets and museums. Visitors can also take part in outdoor activities like hiking or fishing in this picturesque region.
An interesting historical fact about Ararat Province is that it was part of the ancient Kingdom of Urartu which dates back to 860 BC - one of world's oldest civilizations!
