Visit Syunik Province

The Syunik Province of Armenia is located in the southeastern region of the country and is bordered by Azerbaijan, Iran, and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. It is known for its gorgeous mountain landscapes, as well as its historical churches and monasteries. A few touristy locations to visit include Tatev Monastery and Khndzoresk village. Tatev Monastery is a religious center in Armenia's Syunik Province that dates back to the 9th century. It's connected to the nearby village via a 5-minute cable car ride over a deep canyon called "the Devil's Throat". Khndzoresk Village offers stunning views of mountains and churches nestled into cliffsides, along with countless hiking trails and natural landmarks like caves, canyons, rocks with strange shapes, etc. An interesting historical fact about Syunik is that it was one of several regions that declared independence from Soviet rule during what came to be known as The Nagorno-Karabakh War (1988-1994).
