The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) is located in the southeast of Australia and is home to its national capital, Canberra. This city is a hub for politics, culture and history. It's home to many of the country's most important institutions, monuments and galleries as well as some stunning natural attractions.

Popular tourist destinations include Parliament House, the National Library of Australia and Questacon - The National Science and Technology Centre. There are also plenty of outdoor activities you can enjoy like bushwalking in Namadgi National Park or paddling on Lake Burley Griffin.

The city was founded in 1913 due to an agreement between the states that no state should be greater than another by having their own capital; hence Canberra was chosen as a compromise location for the nation's capital city. An interesting fact about Canberra is that it's one of only two cities specifically built to serve as a national capital (the other being Washington DC).
