Carinthia is a state in southern Austria which lies between the Austrian Alps and the Adriatic Sea. It is known for its serene lakes, lush meadows, imposing mountains and lush forests. Carinthia has something for everyone; from water sports to skiing, hiking and mountain biking in summer or winter, to delicious cuisine and charming villages.

One of the most popular tourist attractions in Carinthia is Lake Worthersee which offers swimming, sailing and other aquatic activities. The area around the lake is full of small villages that are as picturesque as they come - including Velden where visitors can take a stroll through galleries or spend some time on its casino floor. Another great destination well worth visiting is Karntner Hohe Tauern National Park - an impressive mountain range with more than 25 peaks over 2000m above sea level!

Of interesting historical fact about Carinthia is that it was a Crownland of Austria-Hungary until 1918 when it became part of Republic of German-Austria before being annexed by Nazi Germany in 1938. After World War II it once again became part of Republic of German-Austria until 1955 when it joined Austria until today.
