Discover Abtenau
Abtenau is a small municipality located in the state of Salzburg, Austria. It is situated in the Lammertal Valley and surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, making it an ideal spot for outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking and cycling. Despite its small size (population of just over 4,000 people), Abtenau offers plenty to do and see during a visit.
One of the main attractions in Abtenau is the historic Karkogel ski area with its 40km of scenic ski slopes suitable for all levels. The area also has an indoor pool complex, restaurants and traditional Austrian breweries where visitors can relax after a full day on the slopes or enjoying other various outdoor pursuits.
Also worth visiting is the imposing Hohe Tauern National Park situated close-by to Abtenau which offers breathtaking views across glacial lakes. Guests can explore this spectacular landscape on foot along one of many trails or take time out with some fishing or boating near one of several alpine lakes found in the park. Visitors should not miss out on seeing Grossglockner mountain - Austria's highest peak at 3798m - either from afar or through one of its cable cars!
