Visit Berry Islands

The Berry Islands of the Bahamas are a small and secluded archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean, northeast of Nassau. There are over 30 islands and cays that make up this island chain, with a total land area of only 31 square miles. The serene beaches and crystal clear waters provide perfect spots for snorkeling and scuba diving, making it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Bahamas.

Chub Cay is one of the larger islands within The Berry Islands chain and is known for its marina which boasts excellent fishing opportunities as well as many beachside restaurants. Great Harbour Cay is another popular tourist destination here, boasting beautiful beaches and fishing charters that can be taken to explore nearby uninhabited cays.

The islands have an interesting history stretching back to 1629 when they were first sighted by Captain William Sayle on his journey to colonize Bermuda. Since then they have been inhabited by pirates, privateers, refugees from Haiti's revolution in 1804, Union troops during the American Civil War in 1861-1865, and today are home to a diverse blend of Bahamians from both East Indian and African descent.
