Manama

The Capital Governorate of Bahrain is an area of the small island nation located in the Persian Gulf. It is home to Manama, the capital city, and several other urban areas including Muharraq and Riffa. Along with numerous shopping centers and modern architecture, the region also boasts a rich history. Tourists can explore several ancient forts scattered throughout Bahrain that date back to thousands of years ago such as Qal'at al-Bahrain which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. Additionally, travelers can visit Al-Fateh Grand Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world that was built in 1987 and named after Bahrain's founder Ahmed Al Fateh.

A unique historical fact about Capital Governorate is that it has been inhabited since 3100 BC, making it one of oldest settlements on Earth! Visitors today can experience this long standing heritage through attractions like The Pearling Path which recounts Bahrain's pearl diving industry during its heyday, or Bab Al Bahrain which was once used as Manama's main entrance gate when it was first established by Persians centuries ago.
