Liberation War Museum, Plot : F11/A & F11/B Sher-e Bangla Nagar, Civic Centre, Agargaon, Dhaka

The Liberation War Museum is located in the centre of Dhaka city and was inaugurated on March 22, 1996. It is registered as a Society with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms, Bangladesh and also with the NGO Bureau of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Over the last 21 years the museum has received 637, 686 visitors. There are 4 galleries which display the protracted struggle of the people of Bangladesh for establishing their identity as a nation under the British regime as well as their struggle for democracy, political and economic emancipation from 1947 and finally their armed struggle during the 9 month long War of Liberation in 1971.

Plan your visit

  1. Be sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes as the museum can be quite large.
  2. Take your time to explore and learn about Bangladesh’s history and culture during the War of Liberation in 1971.
  3. Bring a camera with you so that you can capture special moments or take photos of important artifacts from the museum’s collection.
  4. Make sure to take part in interactive activities such as workshops, lectures, screenings, or other educational programs available at the museum for a more enriching experience.
  5. Have respect for all artifacts on display at the Museum as it is dedicated to preserving those lost during this tumultuous period in Bangladesh’s history
