Somapura Mahavihara is a Buddhist monastery located in the city of Naogaon District, Bangladesh. Built in the 8th century by Pala King Dharmapala, it was one of the biggest monasteries in South Asia during its time and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors to this vast complex can admire its grand gateways and courtyards, as well as several temples within its walls. The centerpiece of the complex is the Great Stupa - an impressive octagonal structure with tiers that reach 20 meters into the sky. Other highlight include beautiful site-specific sculptures and intricate carvings throughout this ancient pilgrimage destination.
