Visit Saint Thomas

Saint Thomas of Barbados is a beautiful Caribbean island located in the Lesser Antilles. It is known for its stunning beaches, crystal clear waters and unique culture. The capital Bridgetown is an interesting place to visit with its colonial era buildings and vibrant nightlife. Another popular destination is Bathsheba on the east coast of the island, which has black sand beaches and dramatic rock formations.

The history of Barbados began in 1625 when it was first settled by English settlers from St Kitts and Nevis. Barbadians have a distinct culture, language and cuisine which reflects their British heritage combined with African influences from the slave trade era. Over time many other cultures have also made their mark on the island such as Indian, Chinese, Portuguese and Syrian immigrants. One interesting historical fact about Saint Thomas of Barbados is that it was once one of the world's leading sugar-producing islands. Sugar production contributed hugely to its economy until it started to decline in 19th century due to increasing competition from other countries such as Cuba and Jamaica.
