Discover Benque Viejo Del Carmen
The town lies at the crossroads of two rivers, creating plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities like fishing and swimming. Benque Viejo is also known for its traditional festivals held every year where locals celebrate their culture with music, food, and dancing.
The main attractions are the Mayan ruins located just outside of town - Xunantunich being one of them - where visitors can explore and learn about the fascinating ancient civilization that once inhabited this region. There's also Cahal Pech Mayan Ruin which features some impressive stelae sculptures as well as great views over the city from atop its temple pyramids. With ample nature reserves nearby such as Chiquibul Forest Reserve or Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve there is no shortage of things to do in and around Benque Viejo Del Carmen!
