Discover Punta Gorda
Punta Gorda is a coastal town located in the south of Belize. It's an ideal destination for visitors who want to get away from it all and relax while still having plenty of activities and local attractions to explore. With its beautiful beaches, lush rainforest and colorful culture, Punta Gorda has much to offer.
One of the main highlights is the large swaths of pristine beaches that line the shore along with many small islands and cays just off shore that can be accessed by boat tours or day trips. These areas provide excellent opportunities for swimming, snorkelling, fishing and sunbathing while enjoying spectacular views out over the Caribbean Sea.
The nearby Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary provides a unique insight into Belize's spectacular natural scenery as well as offering hikes through dense jungle terrain with sightings of some rare species such as jaguar or tapir possible in some areas. Birdwatchers will also find plenty to keep them occupied with over 100 species recorded within the sanctuary borders so far.
Cultural attractions are also plentiful with traditional Mayan villages close by such as Lubaantun where ancient ceremonial sites lay hidden among ancient ruins or Jaibalito where visitors can catch a glimpse into rural life on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala just across the border from Belize.
