Visit Thimphu District

Thimphu District is the capital of Bhutan, located in the western part of the country. The area is known for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. It is home to some of Bhutan's most important historical monuments and attractions, including Tashichho Dzong, National Library, Changlimithang Stadium and Chorten Kora.

Visitors to Thimphu will enjoy visiting important sites such as the Dechen Phodrang Fortress and Simtokha Dzong. For those wishing to experience a more rural side of Bhutan, a visit to Khar-Gompa Monastery or one of the many villages scattered throughout Thimphu Valley would be recommended.

An interesting historical fact about Thimphu District is that it was once part of Tibet before it was ceded to Bhutan by Britain in 1910. This event marked an important moment in history as it marked the beginning of formal diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Great Britain.
