Visit Wangdue Phodrang District


The Wangdue Phodrang District of Bhutan is situated in the central-western part of the country, bordering Punakha and Gasa. This area features lush forests, mountains, hot springs, and plenty of wildlife.

Tourists visiting Wangdue Phodrang can explore the picturesque Punakha Valley as well as Dochu La Pass - a high mountain pass with spectacular views of snow-capped peaks. A visit to the Black Necked Crane Center at Khotokha will provide insight into the conservation efforts in this region.

This district is also steeped in culture and history - it served as an ancient seat for Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel (founder of Bhutan) who unified all 17 provinces throughout his rule from 1616-1651 AD.
