Discover Colquiri

Colquiri, located in Bolivia's Potosi Department, is a charming city nestled in the heart of the Andes Mountains. It is known as the archaeological, historical and cultural capital of Bolivia due to its many colonial-era churches and monuments that remain preserved from this era. The city was founded by Spanish conquistadors and is still surrounded by its original perimeter wall.

Visitors to Colquiri will experience traditional Bolivian culture - everything from ancient ruins to local markets filled with hand-crafted goods. A trip here wouldn't be complete without visiting some of the local churches such as Iglesia de San Francisco, a beautiful church first built in 1790 featuring an elaborate baroque facade and stunning stained glass windows. Visitors should also take time to explore El Campanario Hill where they can take in spectacular views of Colquiri and surrounding towns such as Uyuni from atop it's summit. Finally, no visit would be complete without exploring one of Colquiri's oldest mining sites known as Cerro Rico (or "Rich Hill"). Here visitors can learn about how silver mining has shaped Colquiri for centuries past through interactive exhibits or simply marvel at this important piece of Bolivian history.
