Lake full day

Salar de Uyuni is a spectacular salt flat located in southwestern Bolivia. This stunning landscape is the world’s largest salt flat, covering an area of 4,086 square miles and measuring 11,995 feet above sea level. The vastness of this remarkable site provides a breathtaking backdrop for visitors. During the rainy season, the shallow lake that covers much of Salar de Uyuni becomes the world’s largest mirror as its reflective surface creates a uniquely surreal and beautiful experience.

Being one of the most impressive natural wonders on earth, Salar de Uyuni offers many attractions and activities for nature lovers to enjoy. From hiking through cacti-strewn hills to visiting nearby lagoons with pink flamingos to experiencing awe-inspiring sunsets from Isla Incahuasi–a small island in the middle of this expansive desert–there are plenty of sites to explore while visiting Salar de Uyuni that will leave you with lasting memories!

Plan your visit

  1. Pack appropriate clothes for the unpredictable weather. In Salar de Uyuni, you may experience hot days as well as cold nights and chilly winds, so make sure to have layers of warm clothing ready.
  2. Bring plenty of drinking water with you, as it can be difficult to find in the area and dehydration is common due to the high altitude.
  3. Protect your skin from intense sun exposure by wearing sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat when out in the sun during daytime hours.
  4. Take caution while driving on salt flats roads since terrain conditions can be treacherous at times due to occasional fog or snowfall periods which can quickly obscure visibility levels on roads leading into remote parts of Bolivia’s desert regions near Salar de Uyuni itself..
  5. Always remember your camera or smartphone! The panoramic views that come with visiting this natural wonder are impossible not capture for long lasting memories!
