Visit Nelson Island

The Nelson Island region of the British Indian Ocean Territory is a stunningly beautiful and remote region that boasts some of the best beaches in the world. It is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts who can explore its rich marine life or hunt for rare species. The coral reefs are home to an abundance of fish, turtles and tropical plants, providing explorers with an unforgettable experience.

Two places to visit in Nelson Island are Cinque Island Marine Reserve and Maro Point Natural Reserve. Tourists can enjoy sunbathing on pristine white sand beaches, snorkeling among vibrant corals and swimming in crystal-clear waters all within reach from either reserve.

Moreover, Nelson Island also possesses an interesting history as it was once used as a stopover point by merchants travelling between East Africa and India during the 19th century. It was even considered to be one of the most important trading ports in those times when British trading companies had established settlements around it that concentrated mainly on different spices such as pepper, ginger and nutmeg.
