It is known for its natural beauty, including rolling hills and rivers that are ideal for outdoor activities like fishing or camping. The city of Pleven is the provincial capital and is rich in history, with many buildings from Bulgarian Revival architecture.

Also worth visiting is Varosha - a beautiful lake formed by an artificial reservoir and surrounded by lush forests ideal for nature walks or picnicking.

An interesting historical fact about this region centers around the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878). During this conflict, Pleven was the site of one of Bulgaria's greatest battles during which Russian forces defended against Turkish attacks on their position for three months before finally being victorious - The Siege Of Plevna (July to December 1877). As such, it has become an important symbol of Bulgarian national pride.
