Visit Ruse Province
Ruse Province, located in the north of Bulgaria, is a region bursting with history and culture. One of the oldest cities in Bulgaria, Ruse was founded by Thracian tribes in 500 BC and has been an important trading centre since antiquity. Visitors can explore traditional cultural landmarks like Trakiya Square and Baba Tonka's House as well as explore ancient ruins such as the 15th-century Cherven fortress.
Nature lovers will enjoy visiting Belene Island where they can take picturesque walks along the riverside or rent a boat for fishing or water sports activities. Other fascinating places to visit include St Dimitar Monument near Turtucaia village which marks where Bulgarian soldiers defended their homeland against Ottomans during the Russo-Turkish War in 1877-1878.
There are plenty of interesting historical facts about Ruse Province too - it's home to Golia Monastery, one of Eastern Europe's earliest monasteries and centuries old Petrohan Pass where Ottoman forces were defeated during The Battle of Slivnitsa (1885).
