Visit Smolyan Province


Smolyan Province is situated in the South-Central Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, and has a total area of 2,861 square kilometers. It is home to the city of Smolyan which is the administrative center of the province. The area's natural beauty draws tourists who come to explore its many lakes, rivers, and beautiful mountain views.

Tourists can visit a number of attractions in Smolyan Province such as Devil's Bridge - an ancient Roman bridge located at Chairski Waterfall. Another popular tourist attraction is Pamporovo Ski Center - one of Europe's most popular ski resorts with stunning views over the snow-covered hills and valleys.

The region holds a rich cultural heritage that dates back to ancient times with many archaeological sites scattered around today including two Thracian fortresses from 5th century BC - Perperikon and Tatul. There are also several Byzantine fortresses in Smolyan Province dating from 10th century AD such as Ustra Fortress and Kaleto Fortress which are both worth exploring for their historical significance.
