Visit Sofia Province

The Sofia Province of Bulgaria is a vibrant and diverse area in the western part of the country. It's largest city, Sofia, is home to many cultural attractions including ancient sights such as the Boyana Church (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) which dates back to medieval times.

The province is also known for its beautiful countryside culture and stunning landscape. Nature lovers will appreciate Vitosha Mountain in the south-west of Sofia province where they can enjoy skiing or hiking activities. For those interested in exploring more historic sites, there are several monasteries that attract visitors from all over Bulgaria and beyond - most notably Rila Monastery which has been declared an official UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.

If you want to take a break from sightseeing, head to one of Sofia's many parks such as Borisova Gradina or go shopping at Tsarigradsko Shose Boulevard - both spots have plenty of cafes and restaurants where you can find local delicacies like banitsa pastry or traditional Bulgarian dishes.

Given its rich cultural heritage it's no surprise that Sofia Province has some interesting historical facts up its sleeves too - did you know that it was here in 809 AD when Khan Krum defeated the Byzantine emperor Nikephoros I?
