Visit Targovishte Province


Targovishte Province, located in north-eastern Bulgaria, is known for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. The region is home to the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ivanovo Rock Churches, which are over 800 years old. Tourists can also enjoy the scenic views of the Central Balkan Mountains and visit the archaeological sites from early civilizations such as Thracians, Romans and Bulgarians. Targovishte Province also boasts plenty of nature reserves with diverse flora and fauna.

Apart from sightseeing, visitors can take part in various outdoor activities such as hiking or horse riding. A curious historical fact about Targovishte Province is that it was declared an independent country during World War II under Nazi occupation by Bulgarian nationalist leader Dimitar Peshev who prevented Jewish deportations to death camps.
