Visit Centre-Nord

The Centre-Nord region of Burkina Faso is a beautiful area of natural wonders and historic sites. It is located in the north central part of the country, bordering Mali to the west and Niger to the east. This region contains some of Burkina Faso's most important landscapes for tourists.

One popular tourist destination in this region is the Fada N'Gourma Elephant Reserve, which offers amazing opportunities to observe elephants and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Other attractions include Pama National Park, home to diverse species such as antelopes and hyenas; and Lorrei Falls, a scenic set of waterfalls with nearby trails for hiking.

Centre-Nord also boasts an intriguing history that dates back centuries. Its capital city, Ouahigouya, was once part of one of the largest empires in West Africa during medieval times - Ghana Empire. The region has many cultural sites connected with this ancient kingdom including old mosques, tombs and ancient stone circles called 'cirques' that were used for spiritual meetings and ceremonies by local tribespeople long ago.
