Visit Centre-Ouest
The Centre-Ouest region of Burkina Faso is an area of immense beauty and culture. It is known for its breathtaking countryside, rugged mountains, and rolling hills. The regional capital, Koudougou, is the perfect place to base yourself if you want to explore this part of the country.
One of the main attractions in the Centre-Ouest is Domes de Fabedougou, a series of incredible limestone formations that have been weathered over time into impressive shapes. There are plenty of opportunities here for hiking, camping or rock climbing. Alternatively you can take a two hour drive out to Banfora for some stunning views from the top of Karfiguela Falls.
History buffs will be interested to hear that this region was once home to Mossi Kingdoms who ruled over what is now Burkina Faso until 1898 when they were overthrown by French forces during the European scramble for African colonies. Today it remains a vibrant cultural hub with traditional music and dance still popular amongst locals and tourists alike.
