Visit Sahel

The Sahel of Burkina Faso is an area in the north of the country, bordering on Mali and Niger. It is a semi-arid region with a rugged landscape and sparse vegetation. Here, you can find traditional mud brick architecture and bustling markets which offer a unique insight into life in rural Burkinabe villages.

For tourists, one of the most popular places to visit is the National Park W Regional de Nazinga - an area known for its wildlife conservation efforts and home to many rare bird species. In addition to this, there are plenty of cultural attractions such as traditional festivals and ancient rock paintings scattered around various villages throughout the Sahel.

A particularly interesting historical fact about this region is that it was part of France's West African Empire from 1883 until 1960 when it gained independence from French rule. This rich history has left its mark on Burkina Faso's culture today, making it an even more compelling place to explore!
