Visit Cibitoke Province


The Cibitoke Province is located in the northwest of Burundi. It is one of the 17 provinces of Burundi and is bordered by Rwanda to the north, Lake Tanganyika to the west, Muyinga Province to the east, and Bubanza Province to the south. The province has a population of over 500,000 people mainly from ethnic groups such as Hutu and Tutsi.

One tourist attraction in Cibitoke Province is Rubirizi National Park which offers a variety of activities such as game drives, bird watching and nature hikes. Other attractions include local markets in towns like Mabayi and Rumonge where you can buy souvenirs made by local artisans.

History buffs will find much to explore here too. For example, during World War II there were significant battles between Allied forces and German troops near Mabayi that resulted in many casualties on both sides. Today there are monuments dedicated to these soldiers as well as other relics from this time period scattered throughout Cibitoke Province's rural areas.
