Visit Muramvya Province

Muramvya Province is located in the north-central region of Burundi, east of Lake Tanganyika. The province is known for its lush landscapes, with rolling hills and vast green forests. A popular tourist destination in the province is Lake Rwihinda, a crater lake surrounded by steep cliffs that offer incredible views of the surrounding landscape. Visitors can also explore rural villages and marvel at the traditional culture and customs still practiced there today.

One interesting historical fact about Muramvya Province is that it was once home to Burundi's first president Michel Micombero during his exile from 1965-1966. During this time, Micombero founded an agricultural experiment station on land donated to him by local villagers in order to create more efficient agricultural techniques for his people. Today, visitors can visit some of these original experiment sites where this work began.
