The Muyinga Province of Burundi is a stunning area located in the northeast part of the country. It borders Rwanda, Tanzania, and the province of Kayanza. The terrain is mountainous with plenty of rolling hills and valleys, as well as lakes, rivers and streams for visitors to explore. Its capital city is also named Muyinga and has a population of around 30,000 people.

Visitors to Muyinga Province can enjoy visiting some interesting sites such as the Vyanda National Park which contains many rare species of plants and animals including several chimpanzees both wild and orphaned; or Lake Rwihinda which provides diverse fishing opportunities such as perch, catfish or tilapia among others. The local culture is also worth your time to explore since it has been preserved through generations by the Tutsi ethnic group who represent most of its population today.

One interesting fact about Muyinga Province is that it was once an independent kingdom during pre-colonial times called Urundi which united various tribes across eastern Central Africa until 1890 when it became a German protectorate.
