Visit Ruyigi Province

Ruyigi Province is located in the east of Burundi, bordered by Rwanda to the north and Tanzania to the south. It is one of Burundi's 18 provinces, with a population of over 500,000 people. Tourists can visit a variety of sites in Ruyigi Province, including Muhazi Lake which is renowned for its many species of birds and fishing opportunities; Kibimba Nature Reserve where you can spot rare primates such as black mangabey and mountain gorillas; or take part in traditional dance performances at the open-air Muzinda Cultural Center.

Ruyigi Province also has an interesting history: it was once the site of a fierce battle between the Tutsi monarchy and Hutu rebels during Burundi's civil war period (1993-2005). Since then, it has become an important agricultural area with tea plantations dominating much of its landscape.
