Bow Summit and Peyto Lake

Bow Summit, located in the city of Lake Louise, is the highest point along the Icefields Parkway, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding Rocky Mountains. This popular hiking spot is renowned for its panoramic vistas and the Peyto Lake Viewpoint, which is a must-see for all visitors. The short, accessible trail leading to the viewpoint is surrounded by lush alpine meadows and dense forests, making it a scenic journey to the top.
Peyto Lake, a glacier-fed lake situated at the Bow Summit, is famous for its striking turquoise color. The lake’s unique hue, which changes depending on the season and time of day, is a result of the rock flour that flows into it from the nearby Peyto Glacier. The lake, surrounded by towering mountains and sprawling pine forests, offers an unparalleled natural beauty that is truly a sight to behold.
Plan your visit
- Wear appropriate clothing when visiting the area - a waterproof and windproof coat is essential for unpredictable weather conditions.
- Watch your footing when walking around Bow Summit and Peyto Lake, as the terrain can be icy in winter months.
- Carry food and water with you - these are not readily available at Bow Summit or Peyto Lake so it’s best to come prepared with snacks and a full water bottle!
- Don’t forget your camera! The views from both spots are stunning, making them perfect photo opportunities!
- Make sure to check the weather forecast before setting off on your journey as snowfall can occur during any season - be prepared for all eventualities!
