Churchill, located on the western shore of Hudson Bay in the province of Manitoba, is a small town with a big reputation. Known as "The Polar Bear Capital of the World", Churchill draws visitors from around the globe to witness its unique wildlife and experience its pristine Arctic wilderness setting. From late October to mid-November every year, polar bears congregate near Churchill in anticipation of freeze-up on Hudson Bay. During this period visitors can observe one or more species of polar bears at close range while exploring via tundra buggy or walking tour. Other activities available include beluga whale watching cruises (July through August), kayaking and other water sports (summer months only), snowmobiling and dog sledding (winter months only). Cultural attractions include Prince of Wales Fort National Historic Site and Miss Piggy's House - a replica sod house used for educational purposes - both built by Parks Canada. Churchill is an amazing place that offers visitors spectacles that are rarely seen elsewhere in the world!
