Visit Brava

The Brava of Cape Verde is an island located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of western Africa. It is known for its beautiful landscape and rich culture, as well as its important role in Cape Verde's history.

One of the most notable tourist spots on Brava is Monte Fontainhas, a peak with incredible views of the whole island. At the top lies centuries-old fortifications that were built to protect against pirates and colonialists. Tourists can also explore the traditional villages, picturesque fishing ports, and stunning black sand beaches.

Brava was one of two islands that were integral to establishing Cape Verde's independence from Portugal in 1975; one half of the country declared independence on Brava while another half did so on Fogo Island. The declaration was celebrated with a large celebration at Monte Fontainhas which still takes place every year.
