Visit São Miguel


Sao Miguel is the largest of the ten islands that make up the Cape Verde archipelago. Located off the coast of West Africa, this volcanic island is a popular destination for tourists and offers a unique blend of African and Portuguese culture.

Visitors to Sao Miguel will find plenty to explore including beautiful beaches such as Porto Ingles, stunning mountain scenery such as Topona Peak and interesting cultural sites like the Leacabeche Museum. In terms of history, Sao Miguel has a fascinating past. It was originally inhabited by Guanche natives before becoming part of Portugal in 1462 when it was called Santa Maria de Anjo de Praia. Later on, it was used by pirates before eventually being colonized by France in 1755 and then becoming part of Cape Verde in 1975 when it gained independence from Portugal.
