Visit Bamingui-Bangoran Prefecture


The Bamingui-Bangoran Prefecture of Central African Republic is a region located in the north-central part of the country. It borders Chad to the north and Cameroon to the east. The capital is Ndele, and its area is approximately 33,400 square kilometers.

The prefecture features many natural attractions such as Boali Falls, one of Central African Republic's most popular waterfalls and a popular tourist attraction. The Ba'Aka pygmy people live in this prefecture; their traditional hunting lifestyle has allowed them to preserve much of their culture in its primitive form for centuries.

Another popular tourist destination within the Bamingui-Bangoran Prefecture is Chinko Reserve, home to one of Central African Republic's largest populations of savanna elephants as well as other wildlife species such as chimpanzees, leopards and antelopes.

An interesting historical fact about this prefecture is that it was once an independent sultanate known as Bangassou Sultanate which existed between 1875 and 1902 before it was annexed by French colonial forces at that time.
