Visit Haute-Kotto Prefecture

The Haute-Kotto Prefecture of the Central African Republic is located in the north-eastern part of the country, with its capital Bambari. The prefecture has an area of around 12,000 km2 and is home to a semi-arid savannah grassland habitat. It is bordered by Chad and Sudan to the east, Ouham and Ouham Pende prefectures to the west, Mbomou Prefecture to the south and Kemo Prefecture to the north.

This region has a rich cultural heritage and history which can be experienced through its monuments and archaeological sites such as those at Yalinga and Obo National Park. Tourists can also explore natural attractions such as rivers, lakes, mountains, waterfalls or hot springs.

One interesting historical fact about Haute-Kotto includes that it was originally part of Ubangi-Shari (now known as Oubangui province) until 1958 when it was split into two parts which included today's northernmost Central African Republic regions: Haut Uelle Province (Haute-Kotto)and Bas Uelle Province (Basse-Kotto).
