Visit Mbomou Prefecture


The Mbomou Prefecture in the Central African Republic is home to a rich biodiversity and diverse cultures, making it an ideal travel destination. Located on the border of South Sudan, it is known for its wildlife reserves and national parks like the Manovo Gounda St Floris National Park where you can observe elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and other animals in their natural habitat. The landscape ranges from tropical rainforest to Savannah grasslands and wooded savanna.

One interesting tourist attraction is the town of Bangassou, situated at the confluence of two rivers - Mbomou and Uele - where you can take boat rides or go fishing. Nearby Yalinga has a large waterfall called Pangali Falls which makes for a peaceful getaway from city life.

Historically, this region was part of the Kingdom of Kongo between 15th-18th centuries before becoming an integral part of French Equatorial Africa during colonial rule in late 19th century. It gained independence when Central African Republic declared itself as an independent nation in 1960.
