Visit Ouaka Prefecture

The Ouaka Prefecture is a region in the Central African Republic located in the east of the country. It is bordered by Bamingui-Bangoran, Haute-Kotto and Mbomou prefectures. The prefecture is known for its lush scenery, with dense forests, rolling hills and rivers coursing through it.

The capital of Ouaka Prefecture is Berberati, home to archaeological ruins from various ancient civilizations as well as French colonial architecture. Other tourist attractions include Kaga-Bandoro, an old trading post on the path to Chad, and Yalinga National Park where visitors can spot elephants and other wildlife.

One interesting historical fact about Ouaka Prefecture is that it was once a major center for salt production during the 16th century. This made it a key trade hub between local people and merchants from North Africa who came to buy salt for use in their countries.
