Visit Kanem Region

Kanem Region is a province located in northern Chad, along the borders of Libya and Niger. It is one of the oldest pre-colonial states in Africa, and its long history dates back to at least 1000 BC. The region is renowned for its sandy desert landscapes, dotted with oases and villages where ancient traditions are still alive today.

One of the most popular places to visit in this region is Goz Beida National Park which has a large lake fed by seven different oasis springs. Here visitors can spot numerous species of native wildlife such as antelopes, gazelles, ostrichs and flamingos. Tourists will also find some interesting ruins from the past including an abandoned Kanem Empire fort dating back to 1000 AD.

Another must-see destination in Kanem Region is N'guigmi Town - an old trading post situated on the banks of Lake Chad that has been active since before 1000 AD when it was used by nomadic tribes for salt mining and cattle herding activities. This historic area contains remnants from several ancient cultures such as Kanembu, Kotoko and Tubu; making it an excellent place to learn about Chad's rich cultural heritage.
