The Moyen-Chari Region, named after the Chari River, is one of the 23 regions of Chad. It is situated in the southern part of the country, bordering the Central African Republic and Cameroon. The capital of the region is Sarh, the country's third largest city. The region is known for its diverse wildlife and natural beauty, with Garamba National Park and Zakouma National Park being two prominent hotspots for tourists. Garamba is renowned for its African elephant population, while Zakouma is home to a variety of species including giraffes and lions. Historically, the region was part of the influential Sao Civilization, which thrived here from the 6th century BC to the 16th century AD. Archaeological remains of this civilization, including pottery and statues, can be found in the region, offering an intriguing insight into Chad's ancient history.
